Caspian Gulls L. cachinnans

These two1st winter birds were photographed on 20 November 1999 at the VAM rubbish-dump near Wijster in the Netherlands.

This pale individual is to me the most beautiful cachinnans and perhaps the most beautiful large gull. The same bird is depicted below, although under different lighting.

 

 

A rather dark-backed individual with some strongly patterned scapulars, although the lower scapulars are typically patterned. Note the already pinkish-based bill. 

 

The same bird as above. This picture shows that it is a quite heavy-build individual.
